Privacy Policy
The short version
Crate is a shared rooftop where friends take turns playing YouTube tracks. There are no accounts, no cookies of our own and no analytics. What you type in a room is shown to everyone in that room, and nothing is saved once the room empties. The one thing to know is that the music player is YouTube's, and it loads on every visit.
What others in a room can see
- Your nickname (up to 24 characters) and the avatar you pick.
- Your chat messages (up to 200 characters each).
- The YouTube links you queue, with their titles and thumbnails.
A room lives at its link (/r/…), so anyone with the link can join and see these. Chat isn't moderated.
What is stored
Nothing is saved to a database or file. While a room is open, its state lives in memory on the server, including the last 50 chat messages. When the last person leaves, that memory is cleared. Crate sets no cookies and uses no local storage, and the server writes no logs of what you say or queue.
Third parties
- YouTube (Google) provides the player, which loads on every visit, before you enter a room. It is YouTube's standard embed, which may set cookies and collect data under Google's privacy policy. When you queue a link, the server asks YouTube for that video's title.
- Google Fonts serves the typefaces, and Google sees your IP address when your browser fetches them.
- The page is hosted on Vercel, and the rooms run on Cloudflare. Both keep standard request logs (IP address, time) for a limited period.
What I don't do
- No accounts, no sign-in, no email collection.
- No advertising, no analytics, and no selling, sharing or licensing of data.
- Crate is not directed at children under 13.
